چکیده
The objective was to determine whether recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) enhanced live performance, skeletal muscle biological activity, and beta-adrenergic receptor expression of feedlot heifers during the finishing phase. Heifers (n = 16; initial body weight 457 ± 3 kg) were randomly assigned pens (4 pens/treatment; 2 heads/pen) treatment: (1) no rbST (Control); (2) 500 mg/hd sometribove zinc at day 0 14 (rbST; Posilac®; Elanco AnimalHealth, Greenfield, IN). Longissimus biopsies for chemistry collected on 0, 14, 28, 42, 56. had increased AMP-activated protein kinase alpha beta adrenergic (P < 0.05). Day study affected myosin heavy chain-IIA (MHC-IIA), MHC-IIX, receptor, peroxisome proliferator-activated gamma, stearoyl-CoA desaturase a significant effect fiber cross-sectional area proportion As days feed increased, MHC-I fibers decreased whereas MHC-IIA IIX proportions MHC-IIX greatest density Paired Box 7-positive cells 42 0.05), Myogenic factor 5-positive 56 Also, positive 7:Myogenic 5 measured 28 These data indicate that, as increase, effects skeletal activity are not dependent administration but may be more due physiological changes occurring animal reaches physio-logical maturity.

Bovine somatotropin and rumen-undegradable protein effects on skeletal growth in prepubertal dairy heifers.
The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of dietary rumen-undegradable protein (RUP) and bovine somatotropin (bST) during the period from weaning until puberty on body weight (BW) and skeletal growth rates and age at puberty. Fifty-one Holstein heifers at 90 d of age were randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups consisting of 0.1 mg/kg BW per day of bST and 2% added dietary RUP...
متن کاملShade effects on performance, carcass traits, physiology, and behavior of heat-stressed feedlot heifers.
To determine whether shade influences performance, carcass traits, immunology, respiration rate, and behavior of cattle under conditions similar to those in commercial feedlots, we used 168 heifers in 12 soil-surfaced pens. Six pens were shaded with a galvanized steel-roofed shade (approximately 4 m high), allowing for 2.12 m2 of shade/heifer, and six pens served as the unshaded control. Heifer...
متن کاملSynthesis of myosin heavy and light chains in muscle cultures
The weight ratio of myosin/actin, the myosin heavy chain content as the percentage of total protein (wt/wt), and the kinds of myosin light chains were determined in (a) standard muscle cultures, (b) pure myotube cultures, and (c) fibroblast cultures. Cells for these cultures were obtained from the breast of 11-day chick embryos. Standard cultures contain, in addition to myotubes, large numbers ...
متن کاملEffects of supplemental lysine and methionine with zilpaterol hydrochloride on feedlot performance, carcass merit, and skeletal muscle fiber characteristics in finishing feedlot cattle.
Feeding zilpaterol hydrochloride (ZH) with ruminally protected AA was evaluated in a small-pen feeding trial. Crossbred steers ( = 180; initial BW = 366 kg) were blocked by weight and then randomly assigned to treatments (45 pens; 9 pens/treatment). Treatment groups consisted of no ZH and no AA (Cont-), ZH and no AA (Cont+), ZH and a ruminally protected lysine supplement (Lys), ZH and a ruminal...
متن کاملDietary zilpaterol hydrochloride. I. Feedlot performance and carcass traits of steers and heifers.
Experiments were conducted at 3 US locations (CA, ID, and TX) to determine the effects of dietary zilpaterol hydrochloride (Zilmax, Intervet Inc., Millsboro, DE) and duration of zilpaterol feeding on performance and carcass merit of finishing steers and heifers. At each site, 160 steers and 160 heifers were stratified within sex by initial BW (study d -1) and assigned randomly within BW strata ...
